Hallo. I'm Merv, and I've just been given a course of steroids for my crohns disease flare up.

I hate steroids. I love them, they make me feel great, but they have screwed my bones and buggered my immune system in the past, made me fat, spotty, and full of incontrollable rage and with a dose of manic depression to boot, and I am very, very wary of taking them again. The doc wants me to have a three week course. Last time I did a short course, I was addicted to them for 7 years, and nearly died as a result of trying to ween myself off them. I love, fear, and respect the steroid.

So I am documenting what they're doing to me this time around. For me, to explain to others why i've suddenly turned fat and mental, and as a log book to determine how effective they're being, correlating that against what i've been doing with my day and what i've eaten. It seems a sensible thing to do. You can read too if you want to, whoever you are. Ask questions too, if you like!



I'm on Budesonide, rather than Prednisolone, which is very good. Prednisolone is evil and has terrible side-effects - Budesonide's side-effects are milder. Last time I did this I started on 60mg dose, this time round i'm on 9mg. I'm all scared and excited at the same time...
